Tibet in Lahual Spiti Festival
Keylong/ Kaza, 17th August 2016 : After a decade gap, artistes of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts are once again able to take part in the major festivals of Lahual and Spiti District, Himachal Pradesh. Celebrating India’s 70th Independent Day, on the 15th and 16th August 2016, artistes mesmerized the people of Lahual District with various folk dances and song from Tibet at Lahual Spiti Tribal Fair 2016.
The highlight of the musical evening are the group song titled “Thank you India” and “Ahimsa”, both dedicated to spirit of India’s cultural diversity and sense of brotherhood. Thereafter, the 30 members troupe traveled to Kaza, the district headquarter of Spiti valley to take part in “La Darcha Festival”.
La Darcha Festival is a very ancient festival organized in a small village by the name of La Darcha, especially in summer. During the fare, Tibetan nomads and traders from western Tibet and Indian traders barter goods for months. However, Chinese invasion of Tibet and the subsequent Sino-Indo war of 1962 led to closure of this ancient trade route. The district Administration of the region has once again started this festival with Kaza as festival venue.
Both these tours were made possible with support from MLA Shri Ravi Thakur and District Administration.
The artistes returned to the institute on the 18th of August 2016.
