Kalsang Dolma, a dance instructor was deputed to Darjeeling with the task of introducing Tibetan dances, and musics to tibetan students of northeast regions. She arrived in Darjeeling on January 3rd and commenced her teaching duties on January 4th. Throughout her stay, she conducted four teaching sessions daily.
During the first session, from 9 am to 10:20 am, she instructed 11 students in a song called “Phu Yi Samling Gonpa.”
The second session accommodated over 30 students, ranging in age from 5 to 16 years old. For this group, she taught a song titled “Tsethang Gang La” (On the Playground).
Following the second session, Kalsang Dolma gave instructions on the musical instrument dranyen to a group consisting mainly of adults, with only one 16-year-old student. In the final session, she taught “Gorshey” [ group dance ] titled “Gangchen Bhoe Ki Tenpa.”to a group of young Tibetan ladies.
In addition, she taught the renowned arias “Chenrezig” and a modern Tibetan song titled “Yu Drang Tsangkha Shik Shik”. Her involvement proved highly successful and fruitful. Annually, TIPA deploys one instructor to Darjeeling for such workshops, aiming to promote and disseminate Tibetan cultural heritage in the region.
