Curriculum Review at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts
From April 9 to 11, 2025, a three-day curriculum review was held at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA). The review committee consisted of Mr. Sonam Sangpo, Additional Secretary of the Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration; Ven. Thupten Yarphel, Principal of Namgyal Monastery; and Mr. Sonam Tsetan, Tibetan language teacher at TIPA. Together, they thoroughly examined and discussed each draft of the curriculum and textbooks for TIPA students, compiled by Dr. Tsangphug Top, a professor at Sarah College.
The Curriculum Revision Committee of TIPA had commissioned Dr. Tsangphug Top to develop comprehensive curriculum materials—including exercises and textbooks—for the institute’s four-year undergraduate and two-year graduate programs in Tibetan Performing Arts. Over the past six months, he has worked diligently to create content that aligns with the established curriculum guidelines.
The review sessions focused on ensuring the curriculum’s practical implementation and its adaptability to future changes. Through open dialogue, the committee and Dr. Tsangphug Top finalized the curriculum and textbooks, which are now ready for printing and implementation.
This standardized and integrated curriculum, rooted in both theory and practice, marks a significant step forward in preserving and advancing Tibetan performing arts. It offers students a clear and structured path in their artistic journey. Gratitude is extended to everyone involved in bringing this important initiative to life.
