ཐོག་མར་བོད་ཀྱི་ཟློས་གར་ཚོགས་པའི་དབུ་འཛིན་དོན་གྲུབ་ཚེ་རིང་ལགས་ནས་ཞོ་སྟོན་དུས་ཆེན་གྱི་བྱུང་རིམ་དང་མཛད་སྒོའི་འཚམས་འདྲིའི་ངོ་སྤྲོད་གསུང་བཤད་ནང་། འདི་ལོར་༸གོང་ས་༸སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཆེན་པོ་མཆོག་སྐུ་ཡི་དགུང་གྲངས་ ༩༠ བཞད་པའི་གོ་སྟོན་རྟེན་དང་བྱམས་བརྩེའི་ལོ་སྲུང་བརྩི་ཞུ་བཞིན་ཡོད་པར་སོང་། འདི་ག་བོད་ཀྱི་ཟློས་གར་ཚོགས་པའི་ངོས་ནས་འདི་ལོའི་བོད་ཀྱི་ཞོ་སྟོན་དུས་སྟོན་དེ་ཡང་བྱམས་བརྩེའི་ལོ་སྲུང་བརྩི་དང་འབྲེལ་ནས་ཨོ་གཞིས་ཕུན་ཚོགས་གླིང་གཞིས་ཆགས་སུ་གོ་སྒྲིག་ཞུ་བཞིན་ཡོད་སྐོར་ངོ་སྤྲོད་གནང་སོང་།
མཛད་སྒོའི་སྐུ་མགྲོན་གཙོ་བོ་༸སྐྱབས་རྗེ་ནམ་མཁའ་དྲི་མེད་རབ་འབྱམས་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་མཆོག་ནས་བོད་ཀྱི་གནའ་བོའི་ཐུན་མོང་མ་ཡིན་པའི་ཞོ་སྟོན་དུས་སྟོན་འདི་ཨོ་གཞིས་ཕུན་ཚོགས་གླིང་བོད་མིའི་གཞིས་སྒར་ཚོགས་ཐུབ་པར་དགའ་སྤྲོ་ཆེན་པོ་བྱུང་བ་དང་། ལྷག་དོན་དུ་སྤྱི་ནོར་༸གོང་ས་༸སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཆེན་པོ་མཆོག་ནས་བོད་ཀྱི་ལྷ་མོའི་ཟློས་གར་ཐོག་ཐུགས་སྣང་ཆེན་པོ་གནང་གི་ཡོད་པར་སོང་། ད་བར་རྒྱུན་འཛིན་དང་ཉམས་པ་སོར་ཆུད་གནང་ཐུབ་པ་ནི་ཧ་ཅང་གི་ཡག་པོ་བྱུང་འདུག དེ་བཞིན་དེ་རིང་ཞོ་སྟོན་ནང་རྗེ་བཙུན་མི་ལ་རས་པའི་རྣམ་ཐར་ཞིག་གཟིགས་འབུལ་ཞུས་པར་དགའ་པོ་ཞེ་དྲགས་བྱུང་སོང་། གཞོན་སྐྱེས་ཚོའི་བོད་ཀྱི་རིག་གཞུང་བདག་གཅེས་གནང་རྒྱུ་གལ་འགངས་ཆེན་པོ་ཡིན་པའི་བཀའ་སློབ་ཕེབས་སོང་།
ཞོ་སྟོན་དངོས་གཞིའི་གཟིགས་ཕུད་སྐབས་དང་ཐོག་བོད་ཀྱི་ཟློས་གར་ཚོགས་པའི་རྔོན་པའི་འདོན་བརྒྱབ་རྗེས་ལྷ་མོའི་སྐྱིད་སྡུག་རེ་མོས་ཀྱིས་ལྷ་གཞུང་སྙིང་བསྡུས་རེ་གཟིགས་ཕུད་ཞུས་སོང་། སྐབས་དེར་ཀོ་ལི་གྷལ་དོན་ལྡན་གླིང་གཞིས་ཆགས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་མོ་ཚོགས་པས་ལྷ་གཞུང་གཅུང་པོ་དོན་ཡོད་དོན་གྲུབ་དང་། ཅོན་རཱ་ར་བོད་ཁྱིམ་གྱིས་ལྷ་གཞུང་ཁྱེའུ་པདྨ་འོད་འབར། རྡ་སྟེང་བོད་ཁྱིམ་གྱིས་ལྷ་གཞུང་ས་སྐྱ་པཎྜི་ཏའི་རྣམ་ཐར། སྦན་རྡ་ར་ལྷ་མོ་ཚོགས་པས་ལྷག་ཞུང་རྒྱ་བཟའ་བལ་བཟའ། སྦེལ་ཀོབ་ལུགས་བདེ་གཉིས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་མོ་ཚོགས་པས་ལྷ་གཞུང་འགྲོ་བ་བཟང་མོ། ཨོ་ཌི་ཤ་ཕུན་ཚོགས་གླིང་གཞིས་ཆགས་ལྷ་མོ་ཚོགས་པས་ལྷ་གཞུང་རྗེ་བཙུན་མི་ལ་རས་པའི་རྣམ་ཐར་སྙིང་བསྡུས་རེ་གཟིགས་ཕུད་ཞུས་སོང་།

Grand Inauguration of the 29th Tibetan Shoton Festival at Phuntsokling Tibetan Settlement, Odisha
On 18 March 2026, the 29th Tibetan Shoton Festival was grandly inaugurated at the Tibetan Settlement of Phuntsokling in Odisha State. The opening ceremony commenced at 9:00 AM on the grounds in front of the Settlement Office, near the first village of Phuntsokling, drawing a large and enthusiastic gathering.
The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of the chief guest, His Eminence Kyabje Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche, a revered master of the Nyingma tradition. He was joined by special guest His Eminence Kyabje Jigmey Rinpoche, along with the entourage of Ripha Labrang, the consort of Kyabje Sangdrol Rinpoche, Lama Sonam Tashi, head lama of Dudul Rabgye Ling Monastery, the Settlement Officer of Phuntsokling, and representatives from various governmental and non-governmental organizations. More than five hundred members of the local Tibetan community gathered to celebrate this significant cultural occasion.
At the outset, the Director of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), Mr. Dhondup Tsering, delivered a keynote address highlighting the historical significance of the Shoton Festival. He noted that this year holds special importance as it marks the 90th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, observed as the “Year of Compassion.” In this spirit, TIPA organized the festival in the Chandragiri Tibetan Settlement, Odisha, to honor and promote compassion through cultural expression.
In his address, His Eminence Namkha Drimey Rabjam Rinpoche expressed deep appreciation for the successful आयोजनof this ancient and unique Tibetan festival in Odisha. He emphasized that His Holiness the Dalai Lama has consistently shown great interest in Tibetan opera and praised the ongoing efforts to preserve and revive this invaluable cultural heritage. He also shared his delight at witnessing performances depicting the life of Jetsun Milarepa and underscored the vital role of younger generations in safeguarding Tibetan culture.
The main cultural program commenced with TIPA’s traditional opening performance, “Ngonpa Don.” This was followed by a series of condensed opera performances presented in rotation by participating Lhamo troupes:
- The Dhondeling Tibetan Settlement (Kollegal) performed Chungpo Donyod Dhondup
- Tibetan Children’s Village, Chauntra presented Pema Woebar
- Tibetan Children’s Village, Dharamsala staged The Life of Sakya Pandita
- Bhandara Tibetan Settlement performed Gyalsa Byalsa
- Bylakuppe Lhamo troupe presented Drowa Sangmo
- Phuntsokling (Odisha) Lhamo troupe performed The Life of Jetsun Milarepa
Following the performances, His Eminence Kyabje Jigmey Rinpoche addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the responsibility of preserving Tibetan culture does not rest solely with the older generation. He highlighted the crucial role of youth in sustaining Tibetan language, music, dance, and drama, while noting that monks and lamas continue to uphold Buddhist teachings. He called upon the broader community to actively engage in preserving and promoting Tibetan cultural heritage.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by TIPA’s Artistic Director, Mr. Tenzin Phuntsok, followed by TIPA’s auspicious concluding performance, Tashi Choesam, marking the successful completion of the inauguration.
Traditionally, around twelve Lhamo troupes participate in the Shoton Festival. However, this year, several groups—including those from Doeguling (Mundgod), Nepal, Kalimpong, Mussoorie, Mainpat Phedeling, and Paonta Choesum—were unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances.The opening ceremony concluded on a joyful note, with performers and audience members joining together in traditional Tibetan circle dances, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with unity, celebration, and cultural pride.
